What a difference a week makes going from a very inept display to a near perfectly performance especially in the second half with a goal glut that was always on the cards at some stage.
Interestingly the management rested players and gave opportunities to young Maddocks in goal Zac Horkan and Louie Paget.
The first half was relatively quiet to start with but after ten minutes a superb cross from Duffers allowed Rossi Cook to lob the keeper but then the opposition fought back and with Shane lying injured burst through the middle to score. Andy New came on for Shane and gave a very assured performance at centre-back. We then had a few opportunities to regain the lead but it was not until near the interval that Dean Stow fired in a free-kick that gave us a 2-1 lead at half time. Incidentally an interesting statistic is that in every game this season (and this was the seventh) we have gone into the interval leading by one goal without going on to display our dominance and superiority.
However all this changed in the second half because in the space of less than ten minutes we scored four times, Cookie scored his second with a cool finish and then fortuitously miscuing and lobbing the keeper for his third, then from a corner Andy New soared high to head home quickly followed by another great cross from Duffers which was turned in by the opposition. Then fittingly Duffers got on the score sheet when he raced clear of the defence and thumped home.
Finally Sam deservedly, for all his hard work, got on the score sheet (although on another day he should and would have had a hat-trick) with an easy header from another pinpoint Duff cross. It finished 8-2 but could easily have been 14 -4!!!! Chances at both ends.
If there was a man of the match it would have to be Steve Duff for his pace and crossing ability which brought a much needed dimension to the team.
Camberley on Monday will be a much stiffer task and will show whether the improvement is permanent or whether we go back to struggling to get results --
we cannot wait to see what happens!!! Up the Row!!!
