SWINDON SUPERMARINE v HARTLEY WINTNEY
Report by David Graham

Hartley Wintney moved into the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy with a very assured performance against Swindon Supermarine, who are themselves doing well in the Evo-Stik South, West Division.

The Row had good support, with around 50 making the trip to Swindon. Steve Noakes was welcomed back in defence, and a debut appearance was given to well known local professional footballer, Rowan Vine, in attack.

Marine started strongly and Hartley were soon on the back foot, with winger Ryan Campbell looking dangerous on the left wing. On five minutes, Campbell managed to get to the goal line and his fizzed cross went low across the face of the goal, but no takers.

Hartley settled and on 14 minutes they had their first effort. Good interplay between Jack French and Rowen Vine saw the latter’s shot saved at full stretch by Josh Hill in the home goal. A minute later, Marine's Campbell set up Connor Thompson, who shot just past the post.

On 23 minutes, Campbell had a parting shot following a good move by the home side, but Paul Strudley in the Hartley goal brought off a good save.

Two minutes later the Row took the lead. A free kick in midfield by Josh Webb was contested by Rowan Vine and a Swindon defender, with Vine quickest to react as the ball came down and his shot was handled by a home defender in the box. Jake Baxter stepped up and finished well, low into the left corner from the resulting penalty. (0-1)

The goal gave the visitors confidence and on 32 minutes good work from Jack French created a chance for Jake Baxter, who shot wide. Five minutes later, a good flowing move down the left by the Row saw Adam Everiss cross and Rowen Vine’s effort went over the bar.

One minute before the break, Adam Everiss broke through and managed to create a chance for Jake Baxter, who had the ball in the net. However, the linesman flagged for offside.
HALF TIME: SWINDON SUPERMARINE 0 HARTLEY WINTNEY 1

Hartley almost scored with their first attack of the half. Vine and Everiss combined well and the latter’s cross saw Paul Hodges shoot just wide.

On 58 minutes the Row put together a good move and Vine set up Everiss, who brought out a good save from Josh Hill. The home 'keeper then also made a great stop from the follow up efforts, resulting in a Hartley corner kick. Adam Everiss took the kick and Rowan Vine did well to steer the ball with a powerful header into the net just under the crossbar. (0-2)

On 62 minutes, a long run from Paul Hodges saw Josh Webb set up, and his effort went just past. However, the third goal was delayed by just three minutes. A good move down the right involving Louie Paget, Paul Hodges and Rowan Vine set up Jack French some 25 yards from goal. The midfielder took aim and sent a thunderbolt shot into the back of the net (0-3).

On 76 minutes, Campbell, who looked dangerous all afternoon, brought out a good stop from Paul Strudley. Three minutes later, Rowan Vine was substituted and left the field to much applause from the Row faithful for an excellent display.

Marine pushed Joe Shephard forward and the full back headed over Joe Selman's cross from the right on 79 minutes. Shephard again had a chance on 83 minutes from a cross by Josh Parsons, but again headed over. [D Graham]
