Hartley Wintney v Bashley, Hampshire Senior Cup 3rd Round, Sponsored by BSA Regal. Tuesday 3rd December 2019

Hartley Wintney were knocked out of the Hampshire Senior Cup following a very open match against Bashley from the Wessex League.

The New Forest side looked sharp in attack and took the lead on 5 minutes. A good move down the right ended with Harry McGrath racing through and his shot just managed to elude Luke Williams in the Row goal. (0-1)

On 9 minutes Bash increased their lead with a very direct and well worked goal. Conor Whiteley measured a crossfield pass into the path of Harry Bunce, who took the ball in his stride before firing home from the edge of the penalty area. (0-2)

Four minutes later the Row came close when Tom Bird fed Adam Cornell who shot just wide. Then on 32 minutes Hartley reduced the arrears. Sal Abubakar was hauled down in the penalty area and Jack French converted the resulting penalty. (1-2)

Four minutes later, an in-swinging cross from Abubakar hit the post and came out.

Half Time: Hartley Wintney 1 Bashley 2

The Row started the half well and on 50 minutes Cornell supplied Mickel Platt who fired over. Two minutes later, a cross from Cornell was headed over by Jordan Stepney.

Constant Hartley pressure was rewarded on 56 minutes when they pulled level. Jack French fed in Mickel Platt who shot home from the edge of the box. (2-2)

Having got level, the Row pressed the self destruct button on 63 minutes after trying to play out from the back. Bash gained possession and Harry Morgan moved through to score with a low shot. (2-3)

The Row came close with a few efforts before pulling level on 73 minutes. A free kick on the right from Ty Smith was headed home by Jack Ball. (3-3)

Four minutes later, Bash came close when a free kick from Jack Smith was pushed around the post by Williams. However, the visitors were not to be denied and scored the winner on 79 minutes. From a Hartley attacking situation the ball was cleared up field where the Bash fashioned an opening for Bunce, who ran on and fired past Williams. (3-4)

The Row pressed towards the end but were unable to create a clear cut chance. Into added time, the New Forest side were awarded a penalty. From the spot kick, Williams brought off a good save. The visitors held on for a win they just about deserved. [D Graham]
