Squad Update from The Row's Anthony Millerick

Regulars will have noted the few player additions recently, with Harrison Bayley and Mitch Parker joining us, and Leo Hamblin and Reece Robins coming in on loan. New players joining a full squad nearly always tends to lead to a situation where others are released, either because of a change in tactical approach and/or because they are not happy at the amount of game minutes they're getting, or simply down to the inevitable ceiling imposed by the playing budget. It is thus with regret that the Club has to announce a couple of the senior players leaving the squad.
Dean Stow is the first to leave us, such a popular player with the Row faithful for his time with us during our promotion seasons. Stowie's pre-season was disrupted as the squad took shape, which affected his opportunities going forward, but he showed in glimpses this season that he could contribute to the team, coming on at Casuals in the Cup and almost turning the game with a very determined effort. But it was a case of whether Stowie could be happy playing various roles, often from the bench, as Millers explains.
"After Stowie's disrupted pre-season, at first he felt he could come in and fill certain roles, but he then became overly frustrated, mostly down to the lack of starting opportunities. But he's left on amicable terms and expects to be back at the Club from time to time for a beer. We express our gratitude to Stowie for his time with us and all that he's contributed to the squad."
Another of the senior members of the squad to leave us is Ben Wright. "The first team are going in a different direction now," explains Millers, "and I had to be honest that we'd be unlikely to feature both himself and Sam Argent in the same starting line-up. To have a senior player like Ben playing a cameo role wouldn't be fair on him and I felt I had to give him the opportunity to make that decision. Ben took it well. He was surprised and naturally didn't agree, but understood our thinking. He will stay registered with us but likely look to play his football elsewhere locally. Ben's a very decent guy and we thank him and wish him well, and like Stowie we fully expect to see Ben back at the Club from time to time socially."
It is a squad in transition and the comings and goings are likely to continue, as Millers explained to me. "In the next few days there are likely to be more players coming in." [KOB]
