Club Announcement

Club captain and long-serving defender, Nathan Smart, has left Hartley Wintney FC

'Smarty' has been an integral part of the team since originally joining from Slough Town on dual registration in the summer of 2018. He later made his move permanent and then took on the role of club captain. While with the Rebels he helped Slough secure promotion to the Vanarama National League South in 2017/18 and record a memorable FA Cup run. On joining us he added a wealth of talent, strength and know-how to the squad, many of whom were at the time playing step 3 football for the first time. His leadership and professionalism was clearly demonstrated in each and every game he played for The Row.

Nathan has been a firm fans favourite for his very committed performances and very sociable, friendly manner off the pitch. There's no doubt he will be missed, but with the team in a clear transition phase, the move is seen as the right time for both parties.

"We had an approach in last week for Nathan," explained Hartley manager Anthony Millerick, "and Nathan said he was at the stage of his career where he was looking for a new challenge. He had mentioned Basingstoke being his home town club and that at some point he did feel he was going to go back there. I think the time was right for all parties, so he absolutely goes with our best wishes. He's been a fantastic servant to our club and we thank him for all he's done."

Everyone at the Club will want to pass on their best wishes and thanks to Smarty.

Magnificent servant to the club and I genuinely wish him every success going forward. Having spoken to him I know he holds the club and supporters dear but we all know all footballers move on at some point and that sadly is now for Nathan. I hope he won’t be a stranger and there will always be a warm welcome here at Hartley.
    Good luck Nathan.

Nathan has had a tremendous impact at Hartley - steadying the side and enabling the progress to Step 3 of the pyramid. Always acknowledged the Hartley fans at both home and away fixtures. A true leader - really hope he continues to enjoy his footballing experience wherever he plays. Thank you Nathan. :-)
