Farnham Town 0 Hartley Wintney 2

This was a 100 per cent improved performance by the boys as they put to bed the nightmare of last Saturday and it was only some great saves by the Farnham keeper, some desperate defending, and some disappointing finishing that we did not run up a more comprehensive score against a very useful Farnham side.
The management kept faith with the same team that played Saturday although there were a couple of changes due to suspension and injury, and the one person who immediately caught the eye was exciting emerging talent of 17 year old Andy New at full-back on his debut for us who brought some much needed height and stability to the defence with his strong heading ability and all round skill (which unfortunately I am afraid for us will see him go up the ladder pretty quickly)
We dominated the game from the start and with the chances we created it seemed as the match progressed it was going to be one of those frustrating nights where you did everything but score, but then after a four or five man move a pinpoint cross from Dean Stow was headed in by Sam Argent and the lads piled on the pressure for the rest of the half to no avail.
One goal was never going to be enough because you are always vulnerable on the break but early in the second half Sam chased a long ball down the middle and coolly beat the keeper and take the pressure off and after that it was only their keeper and our finishing that kept the score down to respectability.
The management must have been pleased with a clean sheet and a more assured defence, aided by a fantastic save by young Bradshaw from a well hit free-kick.
Overall it was a very satisfactory from the boys in their first defence to keep the title at Hartley which will be much harder to retain this year as teams will be raising their game to knock us off that perch.
A big thank you also to all our supporters after Saturday's debacle to turn up to cheer the boys home
as they outnumbered the opposition supporters. Perhaps KOB will turn up on Saturday for our first home game!!!

Sorry Nick (and 'the boys'), 'marooned' in Italy till end of the month - someone's got to help them drink all this wine :-) But keeping a close eye on how we're doing - thanks for doing the reports Nick. And good luck today in our first home game boys.
